Our God’s Gifts Ministry plans and facilitates opportunities to utilize the talents within our congregation for service within our CLC church family, our local community, and global needs. They also coordinate and designate food pantry & benevolence recipients.

As people called, gathered, and sent by the Holy Spirit, Christ Lutheran Church makes community service a top priority.  Caring for God’s people and God’s world is a joy for us.  We work with several groups to provide vital services in Monticello and Piatt County.

A new initiative for the 2026-2027 season of CLC, 5th Sunday Faith & Service creates a framework for our congregation to serve timely projects close to the hearts of our members. Congregation members nominate project ideas, the congregation votes, and the project with the most votes is the focus of our 5th Sunday Month (August and November 2026, January, May, August, and October 2027).  Whether it’s monetary donation, assisting with a special event, collecting items of need, completing a service project, or a mixture of all the above, we put our focus on that organization for five Sundays.  On the fifth Sunday, we’ll look back at our culminated efforts, celebrating all the ways God works in our lives, and blessing the ways our church family came together to show the love of Christ.

Our current 5th Sunday Faith & Service Project is:

1 SAMUEL 1:27 – “For this child I prayed; and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord, as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.”

Hannah’s prayer was answered, and she gave Samuel to be raised by the priests.

God’s Gifts Ministry is offering members of the congregation an opportunity to pray for the children of CLC, that they may receive the blessing of knowing that when we pray, God is listening and will find a way to answer our prayers.

Once a month (or more if you wish) you will communicate via written letter or postcard to your prayer partner letting them know you are praying for them.  A mailbox in the God’s Gift Ministry Area of the Narthex will be available to leave a note you bring from home or you may fill out a provided postcard. These cards will be distributed during Sunday School.  The postcards provided by the mailbox also have examples of how to pray for each other, through the “acronym prayers”.  This will reinforce types of prayers and give the children more examples of what prayer can look like.

In the same manner, the child would be able to leave a note for the prayer partner.  You could remain anonymous or not, and in May at the end of the school year, there would be a reveal to the child.  We feel this would be an excellent intergenerational project, and help in keeping our kids excited about sharing what is important to them with someone who will pray on their behalf.

The Lord’s Storehouse Food Pantry of Piatt County’s mission is to provide food for our friends and neighbors in need, while treating them with respect during difficult times. We also help those food insecure, as we can with toiletries, clothes or provide information where they can get help with other services.

During the Christmas season, The Lord’s Storehouse offers an Angel Tree, and thanks to generous donors from the community, provide gifts to the children in need in Piatt County.

The Piatt County Food Pantry, housed at the Monticello United Methodist Church, provides non-perishable foods and County Market vouchers for perishable items.  The Food Pantry is an essential link to other assistance services, including the Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois.

A Small Hand distributes diapers, formula and baby supplies to young families in need.  It also offers emergency assistance to families in Piatt County.  Christ Lutheran Church has supported A Small Hand in various ways:

  • Two of our members, Donna Witt and Karen Molloy, volunteer and serve on A Small Hand – Piatt County Cares Board.
  • CLC provides collection bins for coat/clothing/and baby supplies.
  • It financially supports A Small Hand through benevolence offerings.

CLC has prayerfully decided to become a strategic partner of Willow Tree Missions! While we are still exploring what all this entails, we are excited to know that we will be helping Willow Tree with our time, talents, and treasures.

Our ultimate goal is to help serve our community by supporting this vital ministry and joining in service with other organizations who are also supporting Willow Tree.

We give thanks for the work of the Holy Spirit that has guided and continues to guide us on this journey!

Our congregation supports the needs of homebound seniors through Peace Meals by serving on the rotational home delivery schedule.  Ever 8 weeks, our members deliver hot meals to homebound seniors on five driving routes.

Each quarter, a portion of your offerings are earmarked to support local and global missions.
